Help Adults with Dyslexia

Do you arrange your life so that you can avoid reading/spelling activities?
Do you fear employers/co-workers will discover your disability?

Dyslexia affects people throughout their lifespan.  It can have profound effects, both positive and negative, on individuals’ personal and working lives.  Since so many adults with dyslexia have achieved success in their working and personal lives then it must be accepted that dyslexia is not an insurmountable barrier.  (McLoughlin, Fitzgibbon & Young, 1994)

Successful adults with dyslexic share some common attributes: self-awareness and an ability to define oneself as more than one’s disability; social, economic and political engagement; perseverance and flexibility to pursue goals which are concrete, realistic and attainable; a support system of relationships; and emotional stability and coping strategies.  (Mellard & Woods, 2007)

If you have not yet reached your potential for success, Deborah can help you develop the skills and self-awareness you need to reach your goal.  In today's digital environment, there are many devices that can help you accomplish the reading/spelling/writing tasks you may encounter in your profession.  Through assessment, counseling and training, strategies and solutions can be developed to help you to minimize the impact of dyslexia on your life.
