Improve Literacy Skills

Deborah will provide one-to-one direct service to address specific reading and spelling weaknesses in the school-age child.  Often the child is diagnosed with dyslexia.  She will offer consultation with parents, teachers or other professionals.

She strives to provide a supportive setting in which to help parents understand the nature and goals of educational therapy, as well as offering parents the opportunity to share their expertise about their child.

Since children with dyslexia are at high risk for intense feelings of frustration, anxiety and sorrow, Deborah is sensitively attuned to the interplay of emotions, cognition and learning. Therapist/parental conversations are crucial to the process of helping children learn about their learning style, gain confidence and a sense of self-competency, and develop strategies for success.

Among the consultations offered by Deborah are guidance for school meetings, recommendations for accommodations in the classroom, collaboration with other professionals and suggestions for professional referrals.  Expected positive outcomes for the child are improved skills and study habits, better self-awareness, changed attitudes, and greater resilience.
